Join us for an immersive day of botanical exploration and flower pressing at The Serge Hill Project. Set up by Tom and Sue Stuart-Smith in 2023, Serge Hill is a not-for-profit initiative based on the understanding that working with nature can radically transform people’s health and wellbeing. The aim is to foster community inclusion through gardening and other forms of creativity.

We will take inspiration from the abundant variety of species growing in The Plant Library and surrounding wild flower meadows. With practical demonstrations and hands-on guidance, you will learn how to select and prepare flowers for pressing, paying close attention to the shape and structure of the plant specimens, including tips on what to look out for, and the types of flowers that will not press well.

We will delve deep into the process of flower pressing, teaching you how to get the best out of your flower press, and tackling some of the more difficult species to press. After lunch you will have the opportunity to make your own pressed lower artwork using flowers form JamJar's extensive archive of pressings.

The workshop includes a flower press which is yours to fill with locally grown seasonal flowers, and take home at the end of the day.

Tickets include a vegetarian lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Following the workshop you will have the chance to explore the Plant Library with head gardener Millie Souter.
