How To Do Christmas With... Julia Sarr Jamois

Julia Sarr Jamois

Last up in our Christmas interview series is fashion icon Julia Sarr Jamois. Stylish, funny and undoubtably cool, she is one of the most influential names in fashion today. As both the youngest and first black Fashion Director in Vogue’s history, Julia is a powerful driving force for change within the industry, consistently championing diversity, emerging talent and education.

Born to a French mother and Senegalese father in South London, Julia joined the editorial team at i-D when she was 19, quickly working her way up to Senior Fashion Editor before joining British Vogue. Julia was recently named Fashion Director of Edward Enninful’s inaugural and highly anticipated 72 Magazine.

Known for her exquisite style and bold use of colour, Julia has an uncompromising individuality which is hard to ignore and easy to admire. Julia's eclectic and eccentric elegance comes through in her playful Christmas insights, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Do you dress up or down on Christmas Day? Talk us through your Christmas style.

It really depends on how I am feeling, sometimes I have worn a full sequin number and other times I just wanna be in sweatpants.

You have been invited to a Christmas dinner party, tell us what you might take with you as a thank you gift?

I think a panettone has a really Christmassy vibe so I might take that. Then they can make Panettone Bread and Butter pudding later and hopefully invite me back for this delicious dessert! My favourite gift is taking people I love out for a wonderful meal. At the moment I am obsessed with Claridge's where I have the Lobster Wellington. It’s sooooo good.

Will you be decorating your home this Christmas. If so, how?

I won’t be decorating my home this Christmas, but if I was going to I love a huge wreath. If I had a Christmas Tree, I would have a really fun multicoloured tree. I don’t like those colour co-ordinated tasteful numbers at all.

What is your most surprising Christmas tradition?

My most surprising Christmas tradition is that I don’t really like Christmas at all, so my tradition is to get out of London and be on a beach if I possibly can.

If you could choose just one gift from the JamJar Edit collection what would it be and why?

If I could choose a gift from JamJar Edit it would be this Blue Star Fern pressing. I love tropical plants and my apartment is full of huge, jungly plants. I adore ferns and I like the rust mount too, I think it looks really chic. But then again, I love your cute Wish Cards with pressed flowers, Who doesn't want a wish to come true?
